" Towards an Effective Role of Women in Elected Bodies of Governance"

 

The Egyptian Association of Disseminating and Developing The Legal Awareness is implementing the project of “Towards an Effective Role of Women in Elected Bodies of Governance” in the framework of the cooperation with USAID.

Overall Objective :

Supporting the role of the Egyptian women inside the elected legislative entities of the different Egyptian communities

Specific Objective:

Enhancing and supporting the women members of People Assembly and local councils within  the selected governorates.

Raising the awareness on the role of the Egyptian women inside the legislative entities through the media within the selected governorates. 

Targeted Groups:

Direct Targeted Groups:

§  9 women  members of the Assembly of People.

§  3 Assistants of each women member with the total of 27 assistants.

§  25 women members in the local councils with the total of 200 women members

 Indirect Targeted Group:

Women of the local communities in the selected governorates according to the following table:

Project Activities:

§  Capacity Building of the project staff.

§  Capacity building of the assistants of the women members in the Assembly of People.

§  Enhancing the parliamentary practice of  members in the Assembly of People

§  Enhancing the performance of the members of local councils .

§  Supporting the process of enhancing the media participation in building the community culture on the role of women inside the legislative entities.

§  Creating a network consists of the committees formed in each governorate

§  Launching a website for the association including all the information and data about the project and it’s targets.

§  Printing 4 guiding booklets targeting the community members.

What’s new about the project?

§  Launching a webpage about the project on the project website prepared by the Egyptian Association in cooperation with the USAID

§  Implementing 4 workshops for the parliamentarian women and their assistants and the project staff aiming at making plans and programs to organize the activities of the parliamentary practices for the women members inside the council and to provide the support and technical counseling related to the issues being discussed inside the council.

§  Preparing 2 non periodical publications in the name of the women in the parliament to activate the role of women in the different legleslative entities, to introduce the project and it’s targets , to cover the implemented activities and to present the activities of the parliamentarians inside the council.

§  Implementing 4 workshops for the members in the local councils of each governorate to prepare 4 working plan to enhance the practice of the women members of local council and to enhance women participation in political life.

§  Implementing 4 workshops for media practitioners aiming at orienting the media towards the concept of the project and it’s targets and at making media coverage to support the women and to enhance their participation in the political process.
